In many cases being a mom means more than being the family nurturer, sometimes it also means being the family’s source of financial support. Putting food on the table may be a combined effort or, in the case of the single mom, a sole responsibility. Having a job with good pay, benefits, and flexibility significantly reduces the struggle to raise a family. In order to find good jobs, one needs the education employers require. Yet, for many mothers, even those who stay at home and raise children on one income, returning to school can be financially challenging. How can these women get the education they need in order to enter the workforce? How can they gain access to careers that will give them the pay and benefits they need? Scholarships for mothers may be a viable option.

It’s important to keep in mind that behind each of those awards are a student commitment, a well done application, and the ever-important scholarship search. The latter is where many students find themselves in uncharted waters.

Whether you are coming from abroad, or an uncodumented/illegal alien living here in the United States, there are resources out there to help you find the money to fund your education. Whether you are an undergraduate (enrolling after secondary/high school) or a graduate student (you have attended a college or university and want to continue your studies), this article provides links to help you begin your search. It’s that time again. myUsearch has just launched another scholarship to help its users pay for college. This new scholarship will be open to both international and undocumented students, i.e.: any students who are NOT citizens of the United States. We will award $1000 to the international student who can best answer (with a video or an essay):
“How will the completion of a US degree impact your life, your family and your home community?”

Scholarships are the ideal form of financial aid…money you don’t have to pay back! For me, they were the only way I could attend the majority of the schools I applied for without going into major debt. Everyone told me the money was out there, I just had to find it. I applied for over 35 national, local and college-specific scholarships. I ended up getting three.

myUsearch has just announced that 10% of the company’s profits will be directed to a scholarship program for students in need. You might be asking, is this just another marketing ploy? The answer is NO. Believe it or not, we really do care, seriously. If it weren’t for a sports scholarship, the founder of myUsearch never would have had the chance to go to college. So who is eligible for these scholarships?

If I was ever going to dunk the basketball, the Reebok Pumps were my ticket. Of course when I presented the situation to my parents, I got the same response I always got when I asked for money…”do you think money grows on trees?” My dreams of playing professional basketball were shattered.
Now that I’m taller, and a financial aid director, I’m starting to believe that my parents were wrong. Perhaps money really does grow on trees. (more…)
