Why You Shouldn’t Identify as Asian When Applying to College (or Grad School).

The race question is optional and potentially a minefield that makes it more difficult to get in if you check the Asian box. My advice is to 1) skip this question. It is OPTIONAL! or 2) check undisclosed.

To expand on Justin’s comment, I would definitely consider taking the ACT as well. Even though the ACT has more sections on it than the SAT, such as the Science section, you really don’t need to know anything about science to ace that part of the test. It’s all about knowing the right strategies and how to problem solve, like Justin said.
Certain ACT test prep programs, such as Preazyprep.com, are specifically geared toward helping you learn strategies (as opposed to trying to memorize the types of content that could appear on the test).
Please keep in mind that different strategies are needed for the ACT vs. SAT. For example, the ACT doesn’t penalize you for guessing an answer, while the SAT does — this will affect your strategy for answering difficult questions you aren’t sure of.

This is all good advice. The only thing I would add is make sure when you are planning on applying to college, you sign up to take the SAT early. You may consider taking it for the first time at the end of your Junior year. This way if you don’t do as well as you would like, you can take the exam again and do additional practice tests as necessary. Also, consider taking the ACT as well. Some students find they will do better on the ACT than the SAT. Either way make sure you master test taking techniques prior to taking either exam. A lot of what is necessary to do well on these exams is strategy. The math tested on the SAT for example is no more advanced than algebra and geometry, but the questions are often set up to trick you.
