My Major Dilemma
When I decided it was time to start submitting college applications I was a bit overwhelmed; which university, what location, and of course, what major. For me, the process of picking a major came down to my interests, my school’s offerings and the coursework I knew I could actually complete.
Since I know math and science aren’t my strongest subjects, I was sure majoring in biology or analytical statistics would probably be a bad fit. But I do love people and observation. I like learning about the behavioral and psychological processes that make people tick. I knew that I would enjoy psychology and not be in a state of misery for four years. It ensured I would get a degree and hopefully, find a career in a field I enjoyed.
The best way to pick a college major is to do what you already like. If you were always the kid with a lemonade stand, running a baby-sitter’s club and playing monopoly, than business might be for you. If you seem to have a permanent seat at Barnes and Noble, can’t leave home without a journal and must not miss your book club, than maybe English is your thing. Discovering yourself, your talents and interests is the best way to solve any ‘major’ dilemma.
