The Real College Story
Four years of high school felt like forever. You work your way up from being a tiny freshman to a big bad senior through endless homework assignments, cliques, school dances, breakups, sports teams, puberty, and the dream of graduation day. It seems like just yesterday that I was walking across that stage receiving my diploma… that’s how fast the last 3 years have gone by. In less than a month, I’ll be a big bad senior again. A college senior! I almost can’t believe it. So what was college really like when I look back on it?

College is exactly what they say it is: “The best four years of your life.” It will fill all your expectations of making new friends, taking awesome classes, and opening a world of opportunities just at your fingertips. It will also launch you onto a roller coaster of crazy roommates, wild adventures and the most important journey of all: finding out the real you.
My one piece of advice that I will always stand by: college is what you make of it. The classes you take, the people you meet, the clubs and sports you join… every last decision is yours. The freedom can be overwhelming, but it’s the absolute best part of college. Whether you want to spend the 3 hours between your classes studying or scheming an elaborate plan to surprise attack your roommate with shaving cream filled balloons is completely up to you!
It seems like the more fun you are having, the faster the time goes. College goes by fast and I surely didn’t believe this when I was a freshman. The first week without my parents and my friends back home felt like centuries. Now, I blink and a whole semester has flown by. Don’t take this time for granted.
College is a place to take chances, make mistakes, and learn more about yourself than maybe you don’t even want to know. I’ve changed my major 3 times. First, I majored in business but when I got a D in economics, I decided to switch to Communications. Then, I realized Communications was too broad so I slimmed it down to Public Relations and now I’m exactly where I want to be. I’ve made countless amounts of friends, lost a few along the way, and am still best friends with the very first girl I met at the University of Rhode Island.
Like anything, college will have its ups and downs. My favorite part of the day is waking up and not knowing what to expect every time I wake up. Of course I’ll go to all my classes, meet up with friends for lunch and do homework… but its the little moments in between all that that make college magical. College is all about making decisions, its your choice to make to the right ones (and sometimes the wrong ones aren’t so bad either!)
