Start Slow
People may hand-out loads of advice about what to do to get into school, financial aid, scholarships, classes to take, etc. But what happens when the admission parade dies down? And you actually have to…drum-roll…ATTEND?
There are many ways to make sure your college career is long-lived. The keys:
- Start Slow. Don’t sign up for microeconomics, organic chemistry, advanced algebra, and renaissance history all in one semester. Try out different subjects and classes but balance is key. Take an elective with a required course, so that have more flexibility and more freedom to have a schedule that won’t kill.
- Make Friends. Though no one teaches the ‘Art of Making Friends’ at orientation, it’s crucial to have classmates to rely on, to ask questions and to even help with your study sessions.
- Don’t Neglect Yourself. It’s important that college life isn’t your only life. Stay connected with others by keeping up hobbies and activities. If you go to Church or synagogue, don’t stop. If you have a regular tennis lesson, don’t quit. And if you move away for school, join new clubs, activities and organizations.
